The Provincial Government is proposing bold changes to the forest tenure system.
The main recommendation is establishing new Local Forest Management Corporations.
The Corporations would assume responsibility for the management, marketing and competitive sale of wood from Crown Forests.
Under the proposed model, each Corporation would be a stand-alone business entity whose primary revenue comes from the competitive sale of Crown timber from individual Management Area’s.
The Government is looking at establishing between 5 and 15-Corporations to manage Crown forests.
Spokesperson Mark Spears admits public reaction in Northern Ontario has been mixed.
