Don’t become a mosquito’s next victim.
The Northwestern Health Unit is reminding folks to wear repellent with DEET in order to prevent West Nile Virus.
Public Health Inspector Kurt Casey says other ways to prevent it are:
– wearing light colorued clothing
– wearing a long sleeved shirt, long pants and a hat when outside
– get rid of standing water
– change water in birdbaths and pet bowls twice a week
– make sure your screens are in good repair
Casey says symptoms of West Nile virus are similar to ones you get with the flu such as headache, fever, chills, body aches and fatigue. However sometimes the virus can cause severe illness such as meningitis and encephalitis.
Casey adds the likelihood of that is quite rare in this area.
