This is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and Provincial Police in Sioux Lookout are trying to send a message about the impact it has on the victims, their families and the community.
Sergeant Andrew Simpson says being alert to the needs of survivors can greatly reduce the incidents of abuse.
Simpson notes the province has a program in place to help raise awareness called “It’s Never O.K.” and information is available by visiting www.ontario.ca/itsneverok
In 2014, the Sioux Lookout OPP investigated 32 sexual related crimes which is down slightly from the 36 investigated in 2013.
