Province Announces Major Renovation Plans For Dryden Fire Centre

The provincial government has announced plans to renovate the Fire Management Centre in Dryden.

Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Kathryn McGarry made the announcement Wednesday, noting the Headquarters is in need of a facelift.

McGarry says they are still accepting tenders.

She notes they recently upgraded Fire bases in Sioux Lookout, Sudbury and North Bay and she is excited about providing a new and more effective building in Dryden.

Local spokesperson Dave Cleaveley says they hope to start construction in October.

Cleaveley says the Fire Centre was built in the 70’s and they plan to modernize the building to improve worker safety and make operations more efficient.

The project is expected to last roughly two years.

The cost is not yet known.

On Wednesday, a new and improved $25-million Fire Management Centre opened in Thunder Bay.
