Province Defending Energy Plan

The provincial government continues to defend its new Long Term Energy Plan.

The opposition says it will result in a significant increase in hydro rates over the next couple of decades.

Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault says they will be able to control costs by changes being made to the electrical generation system.

He cites not building any new nuclear power plants and not going ahead with the next phase of the Large Renewable Power plan.

The Liberals say electricity costs will remain stable over the next year and then rise slowly over the next two decades.

Thibeault says their strategy will bring forward prosperity for their province and fairness for ratepayers.
