The provincial government is out with some new winter road maintenance standards.
Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek says he wants MPP’s from this region to pay attention to make sure the new rules are being met.
Yurek says changes include specifying the amount of winter equipment in a route, explicit patrolling requirements and use of anti-icing liquid as well as newer equipment that will be more visible.
He notes additional staff will also be added to ensure snow plowing on area highways is done correctly.
The government is also introducing a new ‘Track My Plow’ feature on the Ontario 511 website.
Yurek says the tool will allow drivers to plan ahead and see where plows have and haven’t been.
He adds by the end of the year, the site will also include publicly reported incidents, traffic jams and weather hazards
