Province Restricting Initial Number Of Cannabis Stores

The provincial government has decided to put a limit on the number of private retail Cannabis stores allowed to open in April.

Just 25 licences will be issued to start.

They will be awarded through a lottery which will be overseen by a third party monitor.

The PC government is concerned with a current shortage of pot across Canada and an ability for Ontario stores to meet the demand.

Officials say more stores will be allowed to open at a later date once the supply issue has been resolved.

The province is calling on the federal government to allow producers to ramp up production to deal with the shortages.

The City of Dryden has already decided to allow Cannabis retailers set-up shop in town.
