The province is moving towards creating one group to oversee all areas of the forestry sector in Northwestern Ontario.
Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle announced today the creation of the Local Forest Management Corporation on behalf of Ministry of Natural Resources Minister David Orazetti.
Gravelle says the group aims to re-vitalize the forestry sector.
Gravelle says the Corporation will work with various companies to agree on wood supply commitments and the price of those supplies.
He notes the group will ensure all of the crown wood is used.
Six people were named to the board and they hope to be operational by the Spring of 2014.
Daryl Skworchinski has been named Chair and he notes the group has received the mandate to be more economic development driven.
