The provincial government is committing $85-million for the clean-up of the English-Wabigoon River system.
Environment Minister Glen Murray says the funding will be used to design and implement the clean-up, and for long-term monitoring.
The river system, which passes through the Grassy Narrows First Nation was contaminated by mercury by the old Reed Paper Mill in Dryden.
Previously the Wynne government had spent $2.5-million for sampling and analysis work, and Murray says they will be providing $2.7-million this year to accelerate those efforts.
Initial work will begin this Summer.
