Province Still Asking For Caution When Starting A Fire

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is out with some tips if you are going camping this Canada Day long weekend.

Although the risk of a fire is minimal right now, officials stress a fire can spread at any time and in any condition.

Officials urge to keep your fire small, always stay nearby, soak your fire with water when done and ensure it’s out before you leave.

You are asked to choose your site carefully, with easy access to water that is sheltered from high winds.

The MNRF suggests you prepare the site by clearing a one metre space and removing all pine needles, grass, leaves and twigs.

There hasn’t been a fire in over a week and the hazard is low across much of the region.

The only exception is the Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts, where it’s moderate to high.
