Province updates parks act

For the first time in more than 50 years, the provincial government is updating legislation government Ontario’s provincial parks.

The Parks and Conservation Reserves act was given first reading this week in the Ontario Legislature.

Spokesperson for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Evan Ferrari says the bill modernizes the regulations government parks no matter how large they are or where they are located.

Ferrari adds that he’s pleased the government has agreed to ban all industrial activity from provincial parks, including mining and logging.
