Province Will Work With Communities On School Bus Cameras

The Ontario government wants to make it easier for school buses to be equipped with cameras to catch drivers who fail to stop for their flashing red lights.

Some buses in southern Ontario already use cameras, but often need someone to testify the validity of the video when used in court.

Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca wants to eliminate that.

Del Duca says he’ll turn to municipalities and other road safety partners to help decide what action the government should take.

Del Duca notes currently there’s no law prohibiting bus companies or school boards from installing and using the cameras right now.
