Premier Kathleen Wynne is resisting calls for a by-election to replace Glen Murray.
The former Environment Minister is leaving the Liberals to become Executive Director of the Pembina Institute.
Murray will continue to serve as an MPP for his Toronto area riding before he takes on his new job in early September.
Wynne says it would not be fiscally responsible to hold a by-election with a provincial election on the horizon.
We go to the provincial polls next June.
Wynne says historically, governments have waited for the election when a resignation comes within a year of that vote.
