The provincial government says its come up with two possible solutions for removing mercury from the English-Wabigoon River System.
Environment Minister Glen Murray says over the past couple of months they have narrowed down the list from a dozen possible techniques.
Murray notes the preferred options are oxygenation and layering to remove the mercury.
Murray says now they will work on how they can use these techniques to clean-up the area without impacting the river bed.
He notes they have ruled out dredging the river bed over concerns that might disturb the mercury and actually spread it instead of removing it all.
Murray says the government spent roughly $300,000 alone in the last couple of months to make this determination.
