Provincial/National Support For Australian Firefighters

Canada is helping weary firefighters in Australia deal with an early and very extreme bush fire season.

Isabelle Chenard is with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Chenard says there are 21 Canadian firefighters in the continent including three from Ontario.

She notes the personnel will all be gone for a deployment of 38 days and will initially be stationed in the state of New South Wales.

Chenard says the ministry trio “includes one operations section chief and two planning section chiefs that will be joining incident management teams.”

She states Australia asked for the help, but stresses that country has helped Canada out at least four times since 2015 with firefighting efforts.
