Trustees with the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board voted Tuesday
night in favour of closing Wabigoon, Riverview and Pinewood Schools and
building a new school on the Riverview site.
Ed Arnold was the only one to vote against the plan stating he followed the wishes of parents and school communities who were opposed to a so-called “Super School.”
Arnold says the Board shouldn’t lead the public into saying they have a say in the process when in the end they find out they don’t have a say.
He is concerned that the new school won’t be able to handle any population boom in Dryden.
Barb Gauthier says it was a gut-wrenching decision but notes it was one that was in the best interest of students and their education.
The vacant Oxdrift School will also permanently close.
