Public Board Introduces $96-Million Budget

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has introduced a 2018-2019 budget of $96-million.

The fiscal document was presented to Trustees Tuesday night at an open board meeting in Savanat Lake.

Superintendent of Business Richard Findlay says the budget is 4.4% higher.

Findlay says they are looking at a surplus of $456,000, pushing their reserves up to $19.9-million.

Findlay notes the board saw an increase in funding because the cost of doing business in northwestern Ontario is getting higher and they received more money from the province to off-set an increase in salaries and benefits.

He calls it a great budget overall, stressing they are in compliance with Ministry of Education guidelines.

Findlay says there is a bit of funding for special education and they had to eliminate one Vice-Principal position.
