Public Board Looking at Special Education

A review team from the Ministry of Education has recommended a number of areas for improvement in special education programs in the public school system.
Sean Monteith is the Assistant to the Director of the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board.
Monteith says they have started to implement a number of the recommendations contained in the review.
Monteith says one recommendation they intend to act on quickly is improved professional development programs for educational assistants.
He adds another area of concern is the lack of parental involvement with special education students at the secondary school level.
Monteith says another concern is the delivery of speech language services in the region, which have become uncertain in recent years.
