Public Board Looks At Enrolment Numbers

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is projecting a decline in enrolment in 2018-2019.

Early numbers show a 1.3% drop compared to this year, with 4,709 students expected to attend public schools next year.

That’s a drop of 60-students from 2017-2018.

Officials says part of the enrolment decline is due to the increased success with summer school programs, enabling students to graduate on time.

The Board notes they will receive about $190,000 from the provincial Declining Enrolment Grant.

Kenora is the only community expected to see growth, with a projected hike of 2%

The new Sioux North High School is also looking at a jump of 5% compared to current numbers at Queen Elizabeth.

Ignace is looking at a decline of 8%, while Dryden is staring at a drop of 4%.

Overall in Sioux Lookout, the community is expected to see a 1% decline in student numbers.
