The Director of Education for the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is excited for the start of a new school year.
Classes are back in session and Sean Monteith believes they have established a strong identity in area classrooms.
Monteith says a lot of their initiatives that they have had in place for the last couple of years as pilots are now embedded.
He notes that includes the Four Directions Grad Coach program and the Hockey Canada Skills Academy.
Monteith says the board is also moving forward with fresh programming, including a new technology learning strategy.
On a staffing level, Monteith is anticipating a more coherent and integrated senior leadership team now that several new appointees have a year under their belt.
A new school year will also bring about change starting in October.
A municipal election will result in several new faces at the Trustee level.
That includes Dave Penney, who has been a permanent fixture with the public board, spending the past 15 years as Chair.
Penney has opted to take a run at a Council seat in Ignace.
Monteith stresses he is sad to see Dave leave.
