There were a number of hot button issues discussed at a Town Hall meeting on public education held in Dryden Monday night.
The need for more behavioral support in schools, standardized testing and the history of funding cuts to schools and how that has impacted programming for students were among the topics addressed.
Vanessa Clarke is the Treasurer of the Keewatin-Patricia Elementary Teachers Association and she says it’s important to discuss challenges in order to meet the needs of area students.
Clarke notes another on-going concern is class sizes.
She says the larger the class, the harder it is to give students individual attention.
Clarke adds having the community more engaged in schools and schools more involved in the community was another need identified by attendees.
