Public Input Now Accepted On Forestry Plan

A draft of the province’s new forest strategy has been released.

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says they have consulted with users of the woodlands, now it’s time for public feedback.

He says the plan looks at a number of different issues.

“Access new and old forests and encourage the use of under-utilized species and log qualities. Another key principle is ensuring sustainability. Fostering stewardship and sustainability for responsible forestry development.”

Rickford adds “But to really grow talent in the forest sector and encourage wood use and develop new and innovative products. And finally, to grow our market.

Rickford says the public is invited to comment on the draft forestry strategy on the province’s Environment Bill of Rights website until February 5th.
