Public School Board in the Black

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board finished the last fiscal year in the black.
Trustees have received the audited financial statement for 2010.
Finance Manager Kathleen O’Flaherty says they actually posted a fairly healthy surplus.
O’Flaherty says of their $16-million surplus, $14-million will go directly to pay for the new elementary school in Dryden.
Part of the surplus is credited to reduced operating costs of schools, due to new energy efficient equipment installed in recent years.
O’Flaherty also notes an accumulated surplus of nearly $58-million has been built up over several years.
