Public School Board Making Headway On Mental Health

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says it’s making progress on its mental health strategy.

Mental Health Lead Candice Kerkermeier says they continue to form strong partnerships to improve the well-being of students inside and outside the classroom.

Kerkermeier says are continuing their strong relationship with the Centre for Addictions and Health as well as the Northwestern Health Unit.

She notes there is a heavy emphasis on bringing mental health resources and Naloxone kits into the classrooms starting this September.

Kerkermeier adds all educational assistants and most teachers will be equipped with specialized trauma training at the end of this school year.

The three main goals of the strategy are focusing on building organizational mental health, increasing mental health literacy and changing the classroom climate.
