Police Services Board Concerned With Cost Of Costing Study

The Dryden Police Services Board has serious concerns about the costs of entering into an OPP police costing study.

The Board met for the first time Tuesday since an announcement of a potential study and member Bill Wiedenhoeft he not only has short-term concerns, but long term ones as well.

Wiedenhoeft says who is going to pay for an OPP costing study and how much is it going to cost?

He doesn’t believe Council has taken a look at the big picture like the costs of the initial study, consulting fees and staff salaries.

Wiedenhoeft is also questioning the costs if Council decided to disband the Police Service as well as compensation costs for staff who would not be moving on.

He believes it will cost the City big, big bucks and notes that’s why other municipalities have decided to not head down that road.

Wiedenhoeft points out the municipality is currently engaged in a cost saving measures.

Some on the Board don’t believe Council will get all of the financial answers before a June 12th Committee of the Whole meeting.
