Public School Board Starting Work On New School

Preliminary work is about to start on the new High School in Sioux Lookout.

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has awarded the contract for the preload operation to Finn Way Contractors.

Officials say 10,000 cubic metres of granular material will be brought to the site to prepare the ground for construction of the school starting in the summer of 2016.

The material will be placed and compacted on the ground at the location of the new school.

Crews will start this week fencing off the construction area and removing some trees and brush.

A temporary road is being built into the site from Third Avenue, past the ball diamonds and tennis courts.

Steps are also being taken to ensure students safety.

The Curtis Avenue pedestrian access route to the property will be blocked off starting on Wednesday.

Students and staff will enter at the southwest corner instead of Curtis Avenue, or by entering from First Avenue.

Initial work is expected to be completed by the end of November.
