A Lakehead University professor is back from a national forestry conference focused on getting First Nations and municipalities involved in managing area forests.
Dr. Peggy Smith says there are 58 community forest projects in B.C., and several in Quebec but stresses the only hold out is Ontario.
One of the suggestions to come out of the conference was to create a national policy network to deal with community forest issues.
Smith says the goal is to give local communities more control over how timber licences are issued.
