Despite very hot conditions over the weekend, there were no new forest fires reported in northwestern Ontario.
In fact, the Ministry of Natural Resources says a number of wild fires burning in the far north have been declared out.
Just 32 fires are still considered active.
A brief stint of lightning strikes through the area may have the MNR on alert however.
In the meantime, the number of fire rangers working out of province continues to drop.
About 90 more forest fire fighters returned home over the weekend.
There are still about 174 on duty in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
109 are stationed in B.C.
Here at home, the forest fire hazard is moderate in the west and the east sectors, and is high in the south and north centres.
The MNR is still reminding people to be careful with outdoor fires.
