Rain Dampens Forest Fire Situation In The Northwest

It was a quiet weekend on the forest fire front.

There were no new fires over the past two days thanks in part to the rain.

However, there are still 61-active fires in the northwest.

51 are being observed, nine are under control and one is being held.

The forest fire hazard is low in most parts of the region but moderate to high in the Far North and Thunder Bay area.

Meantime, the Ministry of Natural Resources continues to be busy out of province.

There are 203 fire personnel in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

91 fire fighters returned home Sunday after spending time in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

The MNR says additional deployments are expected out west.
