Almost 7.6 millimetres of rain over Rainy Lake in the past 24 hours has prompted Abitibi officials to take action.
Abitibi Energy-Utilities Coordinator Raimo Tyrvainen notes two waste gates are being opened today.
The move will increase the water flow into Rainy River by roughly 100 cubic metres per second.
Officials say much more rain actually fell over Namakan Lake – about 32 millimetres since yesterday.
