The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation has
invested 30-thousand dollars into studying the viability
of a new regional abattoir.
Minister of Northern Development and Mines Rick
Bartolucci says the region’s beef industry is larger than
that of any Atlantic province.
Bartolucci notes the Rainy River District supplies a
significant amount to the industry.
The money will go towards a business plan that will
investigate markets for proposed products, building
locations, design, engineering and an environmental
assessment.
The closet abattoir to Rainy River is in Dryden, 285
kilometers away.
