RCMP Hold News Conference on Arrests

Two Dryden men have been arrested following the seizure of 100-firearms and 50-prohibited knives.
Most of the weapons were seized at the Brandon Gun and Hobby Show on December 12th.
The two men were allegedly caught trafficking in illegal knives and an investigation led to the seizure of firearms, spring-loaded knives, ammunition and cash.
Rob Duttchen is a Detective with the RCMP National Weapons Enforcement Support Team and he says both men were participating at the show in the trafficking of prohibitive devices and were charged accordingly.
Duttchen says a further investigation found that one of the men, who was a licenced firearms dealer in Ontario, had illegally transported and possessed restricted and prohibited firearms within Manitoba in the past.
That led the December 13th search of a Park Crescent home.
Dryden Police charged 71-year-old Robert McGillvray with 11-firearm related offences in that search.
Duttchen notes that Police seized every class of firearm, almost every action of firearm imaginable in the seizure of weapons, both restricted, prohibited and non-restricted.
He adds “there are lot’s of law-abiding firearms dealers and firearms owners, and one person making a decision to traffic in these types of knives and then a subsequent discovery of several records anomalies and firearms in their possession, is concerning to us definitely.”
The name of the second man, a 70-year-old Dryden resident, has not been released.
Duttchen says with a seizure of this volume, we have to reconcile business records, sales records and trace the origin of all the firearms, before releasing a list of charges and further details.
He says RCMP will be meeting with Brandon Police this week.
The two men were held in custody and were released within 24-hours.
Duttchen says they started their investigation early this Fall.
