Reaction To Liberal Leadership Vote

Kathleen Wynne is busy preparing for resuming the Legislature following her win at the Liberal Leadership Convention on Saturday.
Wynne pulled ahead of front runner Sandra Pupatello in the third ballot.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell is congratualating Kathleen Wynne.
Campbell says how she handles the numerous scandals facing the Liberals will serve as important first tests for the Premier-elect.
She adds that Wynne has a lot of baggage from the McGuinty government as a former cabinet minister and feels it may be hard for her to put everything behind her.
Campbell notes it’s going to be important for Wynne to reach out and work with the opposition at Queen’s Park.
The NDP member is also pleased that Wynne has agreed to bring the Legislature back sooner than later.
The new session is slated to begin the third week of February.
Meantime, Thunder Bay-Atikokan Liberal MPP Bill Mauro says he’s content with the result of the leadership vote.
Mauro was supporting runner-up Sandra Pupatello but says he has no problem with Kathleen Wynne earning the post.
He says Wynne was a strong candidate and will be a great leader.
Kathleen Wynne will meet with her advisers today as she preps for her first caucus meeting tomorrow.
The incoming premier and her team will make plans for the transition of power and talk about choices for her cabinet.
She’s also expected to try to arrange a chat with N-D-P Leader Andrea Horwath after talking briefly with P-C Leader Tim Hudak on
Saturday after her historic victory.
Wynne hopes an agreement can be struck to keep the minority Liberal government alive and stave off an early election.
But the Tories have already launched attack ads targeting Wynne.
And, Wynne says mending fences with teachers is a priority, but she isn’t going to rip up the contracts the Liberal government imposed on them.
Wynne says she won’t cave in to the demands of teachers and re-negotiate contracts, but still wants them to end their refusal to
participate in extracurricular activities.
