Recommendation Made For Four Provincial Electoral Ridings

The provincial Far North Electoral Boundary Commission is out with its final report, with a call to double the number of political ridings in the north. The new Kenora-Rainy River boundary will include Dryden, Kenora, Fort Frances and most of the Rainy River district, with the exception of Atikokan.

It would end just north of Dryden, with a new riding created to include Sioux Lookout, Lac Seul, Hudson, Ear Falls, Red Lake and all points north.

That riding will be called Kiiwetinoong.

Another new riding would be created in northeastern Ontario (Mushkegowuk), bringing the final total to four ridings in northern Ontario.

Attorney General Yasir Naqvi says legislation will be introduced this fall to implement the Commission’s recommendations in time for the next provincial election. (Picture: Government of Ontario
