The recycling picture in Dryden is about to change yet again.
Council has voted in favour of shutting down its Recycling Facility as of July 1st, converting it to a Transfer site.
Eventually, a state-of-the-art packer will load material onto a transport which will go to Winnipeg for sorting.
Director of Engineering Brad Johns says this is a more efficient way of doing things as it requires no manpower and is a cheaper way to go.
The City could be looking at start up costs of some $400,000 and are exploring funding opportunities for the packing units.
In the long run, Dryden residents will be able to put recyclables out with their regular trash without having to sort through them.
As well, more items would be permitted such as cereal boxes, milk cartons and juice boxes.
