The Chief Administrative Officer of Red Lake says they were fortunate to have such a great man lead their community for the past few years.
Mark Vermette is paying his respects to Mayor Phil Vinet, who lost his battle with cancer Tuesday.
Vermette says he remembers Vinet as long as he could remember people.
He stresses Vinet was a visionary, an exceptional leader, a mentor and a friend.
Vermette says he will be deeply missed in Red Lake, the district, northern Ontario, Ontario and all of Canada.
He notes Vinet had a major footprint on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and always made sure the needs of Red Lake and area came first wherever he travelled.
Vermette says what stood out is how Vinet never stopped promoting what he believed was best for their community.
Vermette says he had a vision and always kept all residents in mind no matter where he was.
