Red Lake Mayor Phil Vinet says sometimes you have to swallow that bitter pill.
Vinet is disappointed with a Rubicon Minerals decision to temporarily suspend operations at its Phoenix Gold mine site but believes the community will move on.
He’s hoping it’s just a short-term move, but stresses the importance now of looking at economic diversification.
Vinet stresses other towns have been able to rebound from a major hit in their tax base and believes Red Lake will be no different.
The municipality is currently conducting strategic planning.
Vinet says he talked with company officials and notes they didn’t expand on a media release outlining the reasons behind the decision.
Roughly 330-workers are impacted.
