The Acting Environmental Commissioner for Ontario says it’s time for municipalities, farms and industry to pay for the water they use.
Ellen Schwartzel is out with her annual report, noting large water consumers are getting a free ride.
Schwartzel adds the Ministry of Natural Resources should do more to restore provincial parks that have been degraded by over-use or have been taken over by invasive species.
Schwartzel adds the government is also doing very little to protect environmentally sensitive areas, budgeting just a thousand dollars last year to acquire new conservation lands.
