Two graduating grade 8 students from St. John School in Red Lake have been selected to compete at the Ontario Summer Games.
Roslyn Chamberlin and Isabella Cianci are two of only 60 girls picked by the Ontario Volleyball Association to participate in the Under-14 division for this year’s Games set for Mississauga in July.
The lifelong friends and elementary school teammates will represent Northwestern Ontario.
St. John School Intermediate Girls Volleyball Coach Tom Doherty says, “I have been blessed with coaching some really talented players over the years, but it’s truly rare that in one’s coaching career, to have at this age, two players like Rosie and Isabella on the court together that possess such raw talent. In addition to their God-gifted talent, they also have the ambition, drive and passion to excel both on and off the court and I can’t wait to see where this sport will take them in life!”
The Red Lake duo will first participate in a five day training camp at the University of Guelph Fieldhouse from July 17 to 21.
Immediately after camp, they will head to Mississauga to participate in the Ontario Summer Games and compete in both beach and indoor volleyball.
