Regional Chief Calling For National Strategy On Youth Mental Health/Suicide

A local Indigenous leader is hoping Kevin Redsky’s “Hope in the Darkness” cross-country walk mobilizes Canadians to address youth mental health and suicide.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says its an issue that impacts all of us, noting northern Ontario has seen so much loss to suicide and addictions on a regular basis.

He is calling for a national suicide prevention strategy that would mobilize all available resources.

Fiddler says it should include input from First Nations leaders, municipalities and the province.

Fiddler calls Kevin Redsky and what he’s doing to raise awareness “a true inspiration”.

Redsky will be in Dryden Monday morning for a public presentation and Pancake Breakfast.

It’s being held at the Masonic Hall at 7:30am, and there will be a walk to the cemetery following the breakfast.

The event and walk are both open to the public.
