Regional Connection To International Incident

The 25-year-old man who is charged in connection with that incident on a Sunwing flight from Toronto to Panama lists Thunder Bay as his residence.
According to the Facebook page of Ali Shahi, he’s from Mississauga, lives in Thunder Bay and lists Lakehead University as part of his education profile.
He’s also a member of the group Lakehead Iranian Student Association.
Shahi was charged after the plane was diverted back to Toronto about 45 minutes into the flight on Friday after police say a man caused a commotion onboard the plane.
The aircraft was escorted back to Pearson airport by two American fighter jets.
Lakehead U isn’t commenting on the report right now.
