Regional Fire Crews Now In Northeastern Ontario

For the first time this fire season, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has dispatched local firefighters to a different jurisdiction.

Information Officer Jonathan Scott says 19-crews from the northwest are now on assignment in northeastern Ontario.

It’s not yet clear how long the deployment will last, but Scott points out that crews can spend up to 14-days on the fire line.

Scott says they are able to provide assistance as the fire hazard here at home is for the most part low to moderate. It is high in an area of the Nipigon district.

The Northeast Region saw over a dozen new fires on Tuesday alone and the fire hazard is escalating in that part of the province. (File Photo)
