Regional Leaders Call On Doug Ford To Reverse Wood Heat Program Decision

Two northern Ontario leaders are voicing their disappointment of the provincial government cancelling the Wood Heat Pilot Program.

Sioux Lookout and Wawa were the only two municipalities in Ontario to receive funding to help them cope with an inability to access national gas.

Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance is urging the new Ford government to reverse its decision to end the program.

He says they are currently at a disadvantage considering a majority of the community’s tax base is shouldered by residential tax payers.

Wawa Mayor Ron Rody says the program was supporting local businesses, creating new jobs and building economic development opportunities.

He points out that they already received 25-applications for assistance.
