Regional Mental Health Conference Being Held In Kenora

Health care professionals from across northwestern Ontario are gathered in Kenora this week.

They are attending a three day Mental Health Conference that starts on Thursday.

Crosbie Watler is a Psychiatrist and a speaker at the event and he says they have over 100 people taking part.

He says the conference is aimed at helping and sharing ideas among those working in the mental health and substance abuse fields.

Watler says they need to better understand the challenges that certain individuals face with mental health.

Watler adds everyone is unique in how they deal with depression and notes it’s important to understand their needs.

He says he will promote the importance of wellness promotion and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

This week is also Mental Illness Awareness week.
