Regional Student Union President Comments On Lastest College Events

Confederation College Student Union President Jodi Afonso is encouraging the Liberal government to step in and get both sides in the college faculty strike back to the bargaining table.

Jodi Afonso says the pressure needs to be put on both sides in order to reach a fair settlement for everyone involved.

She recently met with Education Minister Deb Matthews and believes the Minister was sympathetic to students concerns.

Afonso also believes the ongoing labour dispute with college faculty will have a lasting effect on students.

She says she’s worried about mental health and how that will impact students after the strike is settled.

Afonso notes several students right now are dealing with stress, depression and anxiety.

Afonso adds she understands that the strike between professors and their employer is challenging.
