A new study suggests that remote First Nation communities should be moved to larger urban areas to provide better economic opportunities for aboriginal residents.
The paper was developed for the Frontier Center for Public Policy and urges the federal government to work with first nation leaders on a voluntary re-location.
Author of the report Joseph Quesnel says many reserves, especially those in northern Ontario, are simply not viable.
Quesnel says aboriginals who live in urban areas have higher rates of education and earn about 40% more than natives living on remote first nations.
