A Dryden Councillor is trying to stall talk of an OPP costing study for a couple of years.
Shayne MacKinnon is expected to introduce a notice of motion Tuesday night calling on Council to include the question on the 2022 Municipal Election ballot.
It reads “Should Dryden City Council request a cost for policing the community from the Ontario Provincial Police during the 2022-2026 Term of Council.”
The move comes about two weeks before Council was scheduled to debate a motion from Mayor Greg Wilson on proceeding with an immediate costing request.
MacKinnon has been outspoken in opposition, questioning the timing and motive, stressing no prior notice was given by the Mayor.
In May 2019, councillors voted 6-1 to reject a proposal from the OPP to police the community.
Mayor Wilson was the only one at the table to vote in favour.
