Resolute Forest Products in Fort Frances and the Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union have reached a deal on the setup of the 7th paper machine for 8-12 weeks starting July 17th.
CKDR told you in February that Resolute had to lay off almost 240 workers due to cutbacks at the Kraft Mill and one paper machine.
National CEP Rep Stephen Boon says they are pleased to see over 40 workers get recalled for up to 2 or 3 months when the machine is back up and running.
However, Boon says that many of the workers who were laid off have found other jobs, but that they have a recall option for them which is completely voluntary and doesn’t negatively impact their seniority, future recall rights or severance entitlements.
Boon adds they are improving on their relationship with the possibility of picking up future runs after the 2-3 month period and gathering feedback from Resolute on what the long term plans are.
