Folks in Northwestern Ontario can help “End the Flavour” of tobacco products.
The Canadian Cancer Society is out with a new challenge that raises awareness about flavoured tobacco products. These include cigars, cigarillos, waterpipe and chew tobacco that are widely available in fruit and candy flavours.
Community Programs Consultant Kiri Butter says the main goal is to get information to the provincial government about banning flavoured tobacco.
In 2010, the Federal and Provincial governments placed a ban on candy flavoured cigarillos that are 1.4 grams or less. This means that cigarillos over that are still available across Northwestern Ontario.
Butter says that the use of chewing tobacco is on the rise across the region, especially in sports.
Butter says they want folks to write a note to their local MPP calling for a ban on these products, and that can be done so by visiting http://takeaction.cancer.ca/endtheflavour/#!
