A Restricted Fire Zone remains in affect across much of northwestern Ontario, with the exception of the City of Thunder Bay and several surrounding organized townships.
That means outdoor burning and campfires aren’t allowed. The RFZ appears to have made an impact as there were only four new starts on the weekend.
There are now 60 active fires in the region, four considered not under control.
Several large fires in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park near Red Lake have resulted in some restrictions on area trails and canoe routes.
Meantime, we can expect some more smoke this week from forest fires in British Columbia.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Gerald Cheng says the situation can go from bad to worse, depending on the atmospheric conditions.
